Work Weekend

Twice a year, a group of alums and their families and friends get together to revel in manual labor by fixing up the camp.

Generally, this involves clearing trails, repairing tent floors, and things of that nature, though there are special projects from time to time. For instance, after Hurricane Opal, volunteers spent the weekend removing downed trees and fixing the structural damage caused when they fell. Other projects have included adding onto the barn, tiling the kitchen floor, replacing the roof on the kitchen, building rock retaining walls, repairing the dock at the lake, and redoing the entire interior of the staff house.

Basically, it's just a group of people doing their best to emulate semi-skilled labor, having fun, and being at camp.

Which Work Weekend?

Fall Work Weekend is dedicated to general repairs, erosion control, and the like. It usually happens in September.

Spring Work Weekend is the time of preparation for Parent-Daughter Weekend, though various other projects crop up. It falls either 2 or 3 weeks before Parent-Daughter each year, Easter depending. Check the Alumnae Section for dates; contact the office to sign up.

That doesn't sound like fun? You might consider coming to Reunion instead.
