Getting There

CJL is in Cloudland, GA, about 30 miles north of Rome, Georgia, 40 miles south of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and 5 miles east of Mentone, Alabama. Directions from various points are given below.

Campers from outside the southeast may wish to fly into Atlanta (please ask for details).

The camp's address is "321 Camp Juliette Low Road; Cloudland, GA 30731". It's on the west side of Georgia Highway 157 a mile and a half north of GA 48 and about 20 miles south GA 136.

Google and Yahoo! both have map generators that can find CJL, though the directions below might work better.

If you're navigating by GPS, aim for N 34.53262, W 85.47984.

Get on Interstate 75 and go north. Take the Adairsville exit, #306, and go west (left) off the ramp onto GA 140. Stay on GA 140 until it dead-ends into US 27 (about 15 miles). (You'll cross Highway 53 mid-way.) When GA 140 ends at Armuchee, take a right (north) onto US 27. When you come into Summerville (about 16 miles) take a left onto GA 48, which should be marked as the Juliette Low Highway. This is a left turn in a right-hand curve just beyond the first light in Summerville. (There's a Subway on the right and a bank on the left.) Stay on GA 48 to the four-way stop in Menlo (about 8 miles), where you'll continue straight. At the top of the mountain in Cloudland (you may not know you're in a town) is a blinking caution light: turn right (north) onto GA 157. Camp is about 1.5 miles ahead on the left just past Fawn Drive. Enter through the stone gates.

If it sounds better, just take I-75 south to exit #306 and follow the directions above. However, there's a much more scenic route that's usually faster. Take I-59 south from its intersection with I-24 (west of Chattanooga). From I-59, take the Trenton exit, which is both Highway 136 and LaFayette Street. (The signs keep changing.) Turn left (east) off the ramp. That road dead-ends 300 yards ahead at a grocery store. Turn right, then take a nearly-immediate left onto GA 136 (just past Pizza Hut). Follow that up the mountain past Cloudland Canyon and through New Salem to the blinking light at the intersection with GA 157 (a total of 6 or 8 miles), onto which you should turn right (south). Follow GA 157 for 20 or 30 miles. The camp will be on your right (after a green highway sign with CJL's name on it) not far past Chattooga County's 2-mile marker. Enter through the stone gates. If you hit an intersection where you have a stop-sign, you've gone too far (that's Georgia 48)--back up 1.5 miles.

From the south-west, in Alabama (Birmingham, 2 hours): Summary

From the south-west, in Alabama (Birmingham, 2 hours): Detail

Take I-59 north toward Hammondville and Valley Head. Take the Valley Head exit. Turn right off the exit onto Alabama 117. About a mile down that road, you'll dead end into US 11. Take a right and a nearly immediate left to stay on AL 117 (toward Mentone). Go up the mountain. Continue stright through Mentone. Four or five miles later, you'll be in Georgia on GA 48 (same road: states change, numbers change). About a mile after the state line (just past Mountain Mama's) is a blinking light in Cloudland, GA, where you intersect GA 157. Turn left (north). Camp is about 1.5 miles ahead on the left; enter through the stone gates. Green signs point the way.
